Changing the Background Color or Image
Changing the Background Color or Image
Changing the background color

The 'background color' is the color behind the elements in your memorial (which shows as white by default). By using the Background Color Change Box you can set the background color of your memorial to any color.

The first yellow box at the top of the page allows you to set the background color of the memorial. This box is always located at the top of the page.

To set the background color simply enter the color name in the field and then click the 'set the background color' button located beside the field. The page will reload with the new background color.

You can enter the name of the color, such as 'green' as shown in the example below. You can also enter the RGB (red green blue) numeric equivalent of the color starting with a hash symbol '#' (green is '#00ff00' for example). You can use either format.

Tip: Not all color names will work, only 'generic' or 'popular' colors will work. For example 'blue', or 'darkblue' will work, yet 'canaryyellow' will not work.

The following example shows the result of setting the background color to 'green'.

To restore the background color to the default, simply clear the field or enter the word 'default' (no quotes) and click the 'set the background color' button. The default value will result in a white background for your memorial.

Setting the background image

An alternative way to decorate your memorial is to tile a computer image across the background of your memorial. You must first have the image stored on your personal computer before you can use it in your memorial.

To set the background image click on the 'set the background image' button. If there are currently no pictures being used in your memorial a window such as the following will be shown.

Clicking on the 'browse' button will will cause a file browser window to appear. You use the file browser to locate the image on your personal computer. The image must be one of the following:

JPEG file, with the extension '.jpg' or '.jpeg'
GIF file, with the extension '.gif'
PNG file, with the extension '.png'

After selecting the image, click on the 'change background image' button to set the background image. This may take several minutes depending on the speed of your Internet connection.

If there are already picture elements in your memorial the page will look like the following example. You can 'reuse' other pictures already in use in your memorial as the background image. To reuse a picture you must click the radio button beside the picture you want to reuse so that it becomes darkened. If you reuse a picture you don't have to click on the 'browse' button, however you still have to click on the 'change background image' button.

After clicking on the 'change background image' button the page will be shown with your new background image in use. The following example shows a new background image in use along with the Background Image Change Box being displayed with a copy of the image.

Tip: Background images cannot be seen with some older web browsers (for example version 4 or earlier of Netscape Navigator). If you are unable to see a background image after setting it you may have to upgrade your web browser.

Tip: You can only set the background color and use a background image at the same time if the background image contains transparency, which is a feature of both .gif and certain .png picture files. If you try to set the background color and use a background image without the background image containing transparency, the background color will not be seen.
