Creating a Memorial
Creating a Memorial
Creating a memorial
Once you are logged in you can create a new memorial by clicking on 'create memorial' on the left of the page (shown once you are logged in). You will be asked for the information about the person you are creating the memorial for (including their name, date of birth and passing).

Once the memorial has been created you are ready to edit it. Simply click on the 'edit' button located beside the memorial in the 'my memorials' page. A page will be shown similar to the following image.

The yellow boxes are controls that allow you to either create, change or delete elements in your memorial. Elements are the basic building blocks in your memorial. For example, 'picture' elements are used to display a picture or photograph and 'paragraph' elements are used to display text (words).

The yellow boxes contain input fields (where you can type in text), selection fields (where you make a selection among several options by clicking on one), radio and check box buttons (which enable features when darkened or checked) and large buttons (when pressed perform actions).

The yellow boxes will not show up when your memorial is viewed by others visiting the web site. These boxes are only presented to you when you are logged in and editing your memorial.

Background Color Change Box

The first yellow box at the top of the page is called the Background Color Change Box. It allows you to set the background color for your memorial. This box is always located at the top of the page.

Element Creation Box

The fourth yellow box is called the Element Creation Box. It allows you to add one of the following elements to your memorial:

  • paragraph (text or words)
  • picture (computer image)
  • link (something that is clicked on to direct visitors to another web page)
  • space (vertical space to separate elements)

By default the paragraph option is shown. To select another element simply click on 'paragraph', which will display a list of all the possible elements that can be created. Click on the element name you wish to create and it will be shown in place of the default paragraph option. To change it again click on the currently selected element name and choose again.

To create the new element click on the 'insert' button. The page will then change depending on the element name you selected. This new page will ask you to enter more information necessary to create the element that you chose. To learn more about creating each of the possible elements click on one of the following:

creating and editing pictures
creating and editing links
creating and editing vertical spaces

Tip: In case you accidentally click on the 'insert' button, you can cancel the operation by clicking on the 'cancel' button located on the bottom left of the new page.

Once the element has been created it will be inserted in your memorial where the Element Creation Box was located. In effect, the Element Creation Box 'transforms' into the new element.

At first only one Element Creation Box is shown in your memorial. As you start to create elements, more Element Creation Boxes will be shown. In fact there will be an Element Creation Box shown before and after every element in your memorial. This allows you to insert new elements in between and around existing elements.

Tip: It is not possible to move an element from one location to another in your memorial. You have to create a new element in the desired location that is a copy of the element located in the undesired location. Once the new element has been created, the original can be deleted.

Getting your memorial listed
New memorials can only be seen by the memorial author until the author requests that the memorial become 'listed' on the site. Memorials are by default not listed since they are being edited and therefore are under quite a bit of change.

Once you have completed work on your memorial you can request that the memorial become listed by clicking on the 'list' button located beside the memorial in your 'my memorials' page. A request will be then be sent to the administrators asking that the memorial be reviewed and added to the list for everyone to see. This process usually takes about a day.

If after the memorial is listed, you wish to make a change to the memorial you will temporarily lose the 'listing' status. Once you have completed your new changes you can once again request the listing status by clicking on the 'list' button. You can repeat this process as often as you need to make changes to the memorial.
