Creating and Editing Links
Creating and Editing Links
Creating a link

Link elements are used to provide a way for someone to 'link', or jump to another web page from your memorial.

In the examples below you will be brought to another web page. To return to this help page just click on the 'back' button in your web browser.

This is a link to yahoo.com

This is a link to memoriam.org that is centered

Links can also be used to enable someone to send an email. The following is a link that when clicked on will allow you to email the administrator of the Memoriam.org web site.

click here to email the administrator

To create a new link, locate an Element Creation Box where you want the link to be positioned. By default the paragraph option is shown. Click on 'paragraph', which will display a list of all the possible elements that can be created. Click on 'link' and it will be shown in place of the default paragraph option. With 'link' selected, click on the 'insert new' button.

The page will reload showing the words 'insert link' in bold text at the top.

Near the top of the page is a small button with the word 'centered' beside it. If you click on the small button and a check mark is shown, the link will be centered in your memorial.

Below the small button is the link text field. This is where you enter the text that will be highlighted and can be clicked on.

Below the link text field is the URL field. This is where you enter the web address where the link will send someone who clicks on the link. It has a default value of 'http://', which must be the first part of a web address, otherwise the link will not work.

If instead you want to create a link that sends an email then it must start with 'mailto:' and end with an email address.

The following is an example on how to create a link to the yahoo.com web site. It will produce a link just like the one at the top of this help page.

Below the URL field are three buttons. The first, labeled 'cancel' is used to abort the creation of the new link.

The second button, labeled 'reset input' will clear the link text field, set the URL field back to the default 'http://' and clear the check mark of the centered button.

The last button, labeled 'create' will create the link. Your new link will be placed exactly where the Element Creation Box was located (where you clicked on 'insert'). The link will be located inside a yellow box, called the 'Link Change Box'. See below for more information on making changes to an existing link.

If the link did not get created and you clicked on the 'create' button please see the trouble shooting page for more help.

Editing a link

Making changes to an existing link is just as easy as creating a new one. Locate the Link Change Box for the link you wish to alter. This box, just like all controls is colored yellow to represent the ability to change its contents.

You can change any combination of the link text, URL or whether or not the link is centered. When you are finished making your changes just click on the 'update link' button located within the yellow box of the link you are changing. After clicking on the 'update link' button, the page will reload showing the changed link.

Tip: If you forget to click on the 'update link' button and go and change another element, the changes to the link will be lost.

Deleting a link

If you decide that you don't want a particular link in your memorial you can easily remove it by clicking on the 'delete link' button for the link. This causes the page to load asking you for confirmation. If you are sure you want to delete the link simply click on the 'yes, delete it' button. To abort the deletion click on the 'cancel' button.

Tip: The 'update link' and 'delete link' buttons only affect the link in the same yellow box.
