Taylor, Betty (1927 - 2006)

TRIBUTE TO A PERFECT MOTHER, WIFE AND NANA. Betty Taylor died suddenly on Febuary 28th age 78yrs. She leaves behind her husband John also age 78yrs, sons Johnny 56yrs, Colin and daughter Sylvia. The Taylor family have lived on the scotch estate in Jarrow for the past 50yrs. Betty and John would go to a caravan that they had in Sandy bay with Johnny, every weekend for the last 18yrs and Johnny would get up on the stage dancing and singing with the bands, but unfortunately they had to give up the caravan due to ill health of both parents. Six months later Johnny was diagnosed with alziemers. Betty and Johns life was totally dedicated to their son Johnny who suffers from downs syndrome. Diagnosed with alziemers he was now unable to walk, stand, talk and he is also incontinent. Johnny used to live a happy and active life until he was hit with all these illnesses. This is when the family rallied round and gave their mam, dad and Johnny all the support they could. As we are a very close family everyone got involved including the grandchildren Sherrie, Andrew, David, Daniel, mark, Keith and Erica and great grand son Sam who is 6yrs. On February 15th Betty was admitted to hospital with a broken foot. Seven days later she went into heart failure and was critically ill. Days later she pulled through and was well enough to be discharged. While the family were preparing for her home coming they received a call from the hospital to say that Betty had deteriated over night and that the family should be with her. Colins wife Nancy and Sylvias Husband Ronnie stayed with Johnny while John, Sylvia, Colin and grand children went to the hospital to be at her side and they never left till she passed away on the 28th of February. The day after Betty died Johnny had two major fits and stopped eating and drinking and was admitted to STDH. Five days later the family were taken into a room and told to be prepared for the loss of Johnny as he was critically ill and wasn`t expected to last 48hrs. John stayed with Johnny while the family arranged the funeral of their mam. The funeral went ahead on the 7th of March at the crem, it was packed out with family and friends. John chose his and Betty`s favourite songs JEALOUSY, and IF I COULD LIVE MY LIFE OVER. Sylvia and Colin chose PAL OF MY CRADLE DAYS ffrom Johnny and themselves. After the funeral John went back to the hospital to be with Johnny. The following day John was admitted to hospital on the same ward as Johnny and in the next room. During this time in hospital it was bettys birthday she would have been 79 and a few days later it was mothers day. The family havent had time to grieve properly and found it hard when while they were caring for John and Johnny so soon after betty dying that they had her birthday and mothers day to deal with too which Reminded them again of their loss. Johnny and John have now made good progress and are due to be discharged this week, Johnny has amazed doctors and staff (doctors Rees and panter). Ward 9 have been totally committed to them throughout there stay also senior sister-ward manager Kay Stidolph. Betty was not only an amazing women to know but an inspiration to most people. Not only did Betty and John have to raise 2 children but they also had a very special son who was born with down syndrome. Like every child Johnny was troublesome in his own little way, he had an amazing outlook and zest for life, he had so much energy it was hard to keep up with him, and of course Johnny needed 24 care, which he always received by everyone in the family. Johnny was nothing short of a ray of sun shine and John and Betty have always felt blessed to have a child like Johnny. Of course time goes by and at the age of 56 Johnny was still being cared for by John and Betty. Some people would say it seemed to be beyond the call of duty, but to Betty it was nothing more than a mothers love. A POEM FOR BETTY. Your Passing to us just doesn’t seem fair, We will never get used to you not being there, With your welcoming smile and beautiful hair, We will miss not seeing you sitting in your chair. We spoke to you softly as we held your hand, We hope that you heard us and did understand, That we were all with you and proud of you so, You put up a brave fight but it was time to let go. Time will mend our broken hearts Our love for you wont die. Look down on us and keep us safe We love you forever goodbye.
