Gant, Cookie (1949 - 2003)

We love you Cookie!

Cookie Gant was a psychiatric survivor human rights activist who worked for social justice and social change for decades. Cookie said, "The movement is my family." Cookie was there at the founding of Support Coalition International in New York City in May 1990, and served on the MindFreedom/Support Coalition International board of directors until her death on Sunday, June 8, 2003. Celia Brown, president of MindFreedom/Support Coalition said, "Cookie was a wonderful advocate who bridged the gaps between the disability movement and thepsychiatric survivor movement. She helped start the people of color initiative. I am going to miss her laughter and warmth."
