David was born in Albany, Georgia the last day of May with beautiful strawberry red hair. He was round and healthy and a terribly handsome child. How would any of us know how things in his life would turn out. David was clever and active and very funny. He drove us crazy, wore us out and brought tremendous joy all at the same time. As a teenager he became uneasy and began to get into trouble as well as getting high. I thought and prayed that it would be something he would grow out of as he matured and became a man. Things changed, life changed, he became a Father to a precious little boy. But the drug addiction grew right along with him. David knew he didn't want to live that way but he was unable to fight it even though he tried and fought. After nearly losing his life in a car crash he made sure of his eternal stablility with Jesus. Nine months later he was found dead in his apartment two days after having a party there. Things were very wierd and we all know there is more to it than anyone can prove, but that's the way with drugs and the drug culture. David has two beautiful sisters who miss him very much and they/we have learned alot about forgiveness. We had to forgive David for his weakness....we all have weaknesses....and we had to love him and be there for him inspite of all the hardships. It will make us stronger people and better friends.
This memorial is to David's spirit. He was loving and forgiving and made very few judgements about people and made lots of friends. He left behind a little boy who will have to grow up knowing his Daddy from the memories of others. Camren knows his Daddy is in Heaven and he will understand the security of that as he grows up. David certainly IS now in Heaven with the Lord Jesus, not because he was good enough but because Jesus is and David had an eternal friendship with Him and accepted His loving forgiveness and sacrifice.
Please learn from David's mistakes and the message he leaves with us. Be aware that drugs can and will kill. The combinations of drugs and alcohol are very dangerous and now with the availability of so many prescription drugs on the streets, users are not aware of or understand the dangers of mixing them. David died from a deadly combination of alcohol, cocaine and methadone. He didn't want to die but he didn't know how to save himself. He could possibly have been saved if someone had known the danger and been willing to call 911. Let's all be more drug aware and "Keep 'em Alive!"

This world is a big place and we get lost in the 'stuff' of it. Sometimes I feel like our family is the only one who lost someone so important and I never want David to be forgotten. But the truth is, sadly this happens all to often to people who are loved and are a huge part of someone else's life. To them I say, 'I'm sorry, I wish we did not have to endure this awful pain. Your lost loved one was a unique and wondrously made individual who can never be replaced. I pray your sadness will become bearable and that life will soon be filled with sunshine again."
We all know that it is appointed to everyone to die. Help me in this by making people aware of the dangers of drugs so that death does not show up to take anyone else before its appointed time. As long as a person has breath, they can turn around, change their mind, get better, and stay here for us to love.
