EMMA CATHERINE MCNABB
Emma was our fourth child and first daughter. She was a very bright, cheerful little girl who brought a lot of joy and happiness into our family. She died unexpectedly in her sleep at the age of 22 months. Emma was born with a rare genetic problem: Conradi's syndrome, or (a)chondrodysplasia punctata X-linked dominant.
The following song was sung at her funeral and the last four lines are carved on her tombstone.
Sleep my love, and peace attend thee
All through the night;
Guardian angels God will lend thee,
All through the night.
Soft the drowsy hours are creeping,
Hill and vale in slumber steeping,
I my loving vigil keeping,
All through the night.
Hark, a solemn bell is ringing
Clear through the night.
Thou, my love, art heavenward winging
Home through the night.
Earthly dust from off thee shaken,
Soul immortal shalt thou awaken
With thy last dim journey taken
Home through the night.
