Layne, Murray Lindsay (1930 - 2004)

A son of the late Asa and Dorothy Layne, he was born May 17, 1930, in Dallas, Texas. He married Lila Marie Pound, July 15, 1949, and she preceded him in death on August 5, 2001. He then married Audrey Cooley. He was also preceded in death by his son, Rev. Joel Keith Layne, and a brother, Garvin Joe "Scoper" Layne.

Rev. Layne began his ministry in Eloy, Arizona, as an evangelist. He evangelized in New Mexico, Texas, Arizona, California, British Columbia, Canada and Alaska. He pastored one year in Allison, Texas. He obtained license in the United Pentecostal Church International and was ordained in the Texico District on June 20, 1952. He bacame pastor of Truth Tabernacle in Fresno, California, and remained pastor for almost 20 years. Rev. Layne was also a pastor in Houston, Rialto, California and Mesquite, Texas. In 1995, he was called on to fill a need at Lighthouse Ranch for Boys in Hammond, Louisiana. He directed the work there for nearly five years. During his years in the ministry, Rev. Layne served as youth president of the Western District in the 1950s and 60s. He served as a member of the Western District board in the 70s. He also served on the youth board of the Texico District in the 50s.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey Cooley Layne; three daughters and their husbands, Linda and the Rev. Wendell P. Elms, Ronda and the Rev. Nathan Hurst, and Karla and the Rev. Gene Holley, Jr.; two stepdaughters, Joan Landry and Jan Hamilton; two stepsons, Wylie Cooley and David Cooley; nine grandchildren and their spouses, the Rev. Jonathan and Brenda Elms, the Rev. Andrew and Mandy Elms, Carmen and Brooke Blakey, Shara and Jimi Wilson, Danelle Hurst, Nathaniel Hurst, Ryan Layne, Cameron Holley, and Chad Holley; ten stepgrandchildren; three great-granddaughters, Savanna Elms, Alayna Elms, and Kennedy Wilson; and three great-grandsons, Pierson Blakey, Layne Blakey, and Jordon Wilson; three brothers, Donald Layne and wife Sharon, Asa Dean Layne, and Douglas Layne and wife Judy; and nephews and nieces.
