Frances Lawson Thurston Clonts was born on March 25,
1913, one of 11 children born to Eugene Armstead and
Lena Burnett Thurston of Richmond, Virginia. Frances
lived most of her life in the Richmond area despite
several moves for short periods of time.
She married Alpheus Clonts on April 9, 1955.
In 1961 she and her husband, Alpheus Eugene Clonts,
adopted a baby girl and named her, Marigrace. I am
that baby. Frances was a wonderful mother and I know
she is an angel in Heaven as she was already one here
on earth.
She was diagnosed with alzheimers in April 2000 even
though we knew something was not right for some time.
She moved in with my husband and I and then broke her
hip in October 2000, and got a staph infection and the
hip had to be removed and her right leg shortened.
She became bed ridded and in following her power of
attorney for health care, she was put on comfort
measures and entered the Hospice program. She slipped
into a coma on Dec. 18, 2000, and never woke up. She
passed away Dec. 24, 2000, at 5:43 am. I miss her so
much. Her urn will be taken to Richmond National
Cemetery in Richmond, Va to be buried next to my dad,
Alpheus.
