James Edward Stephens My Daddy My Dad , Where would I begin to tell about him? I know that everyone thinks they had the greatest Dad , so I will be another one added to that list. Daddy and Momma Daddy--Momma and little James My Dad left us on Wednesday, December 26,2001 @ 10:35 a.m. That was the hardest day of my life.We had all prayed that he would get to spend one last Christmas with us and I do believe he hung in there just for us.We knew he was tired of fighting and that he must go soon ,but you see when it came to gifts and presents there was no bigger child than my Dad. We all had him spoiled instead of him spoiling us,always one was going to get him something better than the other.But we all enjoyed to see his face unwrapping any gift, because he was just that special to us. My Daddy and me Daddy and his little buddy My Dad fought for breathe for the past 10 years,he was diagnosed with emphazyma and C.O.P.D. in 1975,he fought a good fight.Only the last 2 to 3 years were the toughest. He was a very stought man ,but yet the biggest teddy bear around.I wonder every day how I will get up the next morning and not be able to see him.There is no way to describe what kind of man he was except by saying to know him was to love him.He always had a story to tell or a prank to pull on you,no matter how many times the story was told it only got better and was never boring. Daddy and little buddy again We all spent Thanksgiving Day in the hospital with daddy and upon his release that week we got the toughest news of our life.They told us he would only make it four to six more weeks.So see we had to make those last days special.We tried to do the impossible by putting a few short weeks left into a lifetime. Daddy--Granny and uncle Rabbit On Christmas Eve we decided to go ahead with the gifts so everyone could be together.We all let him open his first since he was always looking forward to seeing who outdone who.It wasn't that he cared just he knew he was number one with us and we were going to do it anyway. So we did get our prayer answered that we could have one last Christmas with daddy. We took him out to see his dogs ,his favorite past time,gave him his presents and let him eat until his heart was content.Little did we know that would be our last real night with daddy. On that afternoon he became confused alot and was getting worse.My brother and I decided to stay over and help momma.That night we could do no more for him and he was taken to the hospital and from there put into intensive care. On Christmas Day my daddy went to sleep at 10:30 a.m. and slept until he took his last breathe the day after at 10:35 a.m. We all stayed with him until the end.I know in my heart he hung in until after Christmas for all of us.We knew he was tired of fighting and told him it was alright to go rest now,you see he never thought we could make it without him there to protect us,in a sense he was right but we knew we had to let him go because to see him struggle was more than we could bare. Shortly after he took his last breathe which was so peaceful and I thank God everyday for that because to many times there was days filled with nothing but a struggle for the next breathe. We have enjoyed our lives with daddy , he was one of a kind. I thank God everyday for letting me have him as my daddy . I am thirty years old and still a baby when it comes to my daddy.It was a short time to have him but I have had a wonderful time.No money in the world can buy with what I have had with him.
